ARTHER, George E., 83, of Springfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior at his home on Friday December 3, 2004 following a brief illness. He was born July 16, 1921 in Springfield, the son of Armine A. and Mary (Miller) Arther.
He served his country during World War II as a pilot in the United States Air Corp with a rank of 1st Lieutenant.
George owned and operated the Springfield Avaition, Springfield Flight Center and affiliated with Madison Avaition Center from 1955 to 1986 and retiring from aviation in 2004. He was a member of Springfield Flying Club.
He attended the Forest Valley Freewill Baptiat Church.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Arther; daughter, Judith and Nick Heaton of Springfield; son, George (Tim) and Cindy Arther of South Vienna; stepsons, Rocky Davis, Rusty and Glenda Davis all of Enon; eight grandchildren, Phllip Hufford, Kelly and Megan Arther, Joshua, Rebeka, Jim, Sarah, and Tyler Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his late wife Zelmodene; a son, Brandt; sister, Rachel McKinney and brother, Eugene.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in the LITTLETON, & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Springfield, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday December 7, 2004, with Pastor Herbert Davis, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
