Colonel Robert D. Dawes

Age 73, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at his home. He had been ill for the past eight months. Robert passed peacefully surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on November 28, 1939 in Fayette County to the late Herbert and Delcia Sheese Dawes. He was a 1958 graduate of Washington Senior High School.

Bob joined the Air Force in 1961 and began working at NCR in 1965. In 1968 he rejoined the Air Force as an Air Reserve Technician. Throughout his military career he worked at Wilmington, Rickenbacker and Wright Patterson Air Force Bases and retired in 1993 with a rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He was a member of the 906 fighter group. Following his military career, he worked at New Sabina until 2002. Bob served as a charter member of the Draggin' Angles Car Club, chaplain of VFW post 3762, a member of the local Amvets, Elks and a member and past Commander of the American Legion post 25 and member of the Retired Sergeants Association.

Bob was preceded in death by his sister Helen Carson and Father and Mother-in-law, Snuffy and Pat Wells. Surviving is his wife Carole Wells Dawes, whom he married October 8, 1965; sons Roberts D. Dawes II of Tipp City and Brian (Jada) Dawes of Washington CH; grandchildren Alexandria and Logan of Tipp City and Will and Laura Dawes of Washington CH; sister Mary Hurtt as well as a host of friends. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor John Pfeifer officiating. Burial will follow in the St Colman's Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded.
