  Lt. Col. Edward F. Seidel, 81, of Sandusky, died Oct. 30, 2004, at home, after a brief illness.


  He was born March 24, 1923, in Lindenhurst, N.Y., to Edward F. and Helen P. Seidel.


  Immediately following graduation from high school in 1941, he joined the Army Air Corps and was trained as a pilot.  He was stationed in England during WW II and was decorated with the Purple Heart.  He actively served his country again in the Korean Conflict and during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He remained in the Air Force Reserve with the 302nd Air Carrier Wing at Clinton County Air Force Base, Wilmington, Ohio.  He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring in 1965.


  He was co-owner of several taxicab companies in Columbus, Dayton and Springfield.  He was also the founder and owner of Seidel Delivery.  He retired from business in 1984.


  In 1986, he and his wife moved permanently to their home in Sandusky, where he was an avid fisherman and boater.


  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sandusky Yacht Club, the United States Power Squadron, American Legion Post 83, AMVETS Sandusky Post 17, VFW Post 2529 Sandusky, Fraternal Order of Eagles-Aerie 444, life member of the Elks-Sandusky Lodge 285, Singara-Sandusky, Ohio SCC:480699, life member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States.  He was a Mason, Shriner and a long time member of the Hilliard Moose Lodge in Columbus.


  He is survived by his daughter, Linnes R. Seidel of Sandusky; son, Edward F. Seidel Jr.; and his wife, Marcie of Columbus; two granddaughters, Michelle Seidel of Dublin, Ireland, and Jennifer Seidel of Columbus.


  Preceded in death by his wife, Anna L. Seidel; son, Robert R. Seidel; parents, Edward F. and Helen P. Seidel.

His family will receive friends from 11 a.m. Thursday until time of memorial service at 1 p.m. in the David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.  The Rev. Bruce Morrison of Trinity United Methodist Church will be officiating.


  Interment to be held later in Oakland Cemetery.
